Growing old while staying young

Bringing Depth to an Existential Topic

How can we live the longest ?
Longevity has become incredibly hyped. Hardly anyone doesn't track themselves or at least do something for their health. And the trend has long since reached Silicon Valley, where tech billionaires want to escape their own mortality.

We have created a comprehensible, scientifically correct overview that shows what aging really does to us, what can actually be done about it – and what still belongs in the realm of science fiction. We want to encourage reflection and offer approaches for forming opinions on longevity.

At the same time, new longevity research raises important ethical questions: Who benefits from the findings? Who has access to new therapies? And how will our society change when people live longer?

Process of the asset creation

We developed a drawing style that was simple and appealing. Since our illustration had to clearly show whether a person was old or young, it still had to contain sufficient detail.

The pencil drawing style was exactly what we had in mind, so the decision was made!

We decided the colors to be limited, abstract and simple. This helped to get an overall look which accompanies the reader through the whole scrollstory. We finally limited our palette to three colors, one for the strokes and two monochrome main colors. We used two additional colors to give our drawings some subtle shading.

Creation of sketchesAfter we recieved the written article by Stephanie Schnydrig we decided together which part of our Scrollstory need visual support. We than created some sketches to first get an overview and implemented them directly into the CMS of Visual Minds together with the text.

Illustration, animation and implementation of them

The illustrations were all created using Procreate, a software program that can only be used on an iPad.

The animation was then created using various programs such as Procreate Dreams and After Effects. The reason for this was that we had different types of animations, such as frame-by-frame movements and also simple opacity animations, which did not need to be created using frame-by-frame software such as Procreate Dreams.

We were able to simply replace our graphics in the CMS created for us by Visual Minds as soon as they were finished.
